Marine Insurance

Marine Insurance, Sea Freight Insurance, and Transit Insurance

The cost of marine insurance or transit insurance can sometimes be more than the value of the goods they are shipping, so some people are blasé when it comes to it. Many people feel the chances of a shipment being lost during transit are low and cannot justify paying for it, especially if the shipment's value is low. To these people, we say think twice!

You should know that when you put your cargo on a vessel, you actually enter into a joint venture with the shipping line and every other shipper on that voyage.

In spite of the fact that maritime insurance is one of the oldest forms of insurance on the market, many shippers remain willing to go without it. Even if the loss of your cargo might not be worth that much, your share of the cost for a voyage mishap could be an absolute fortune! Would you still risk not insuring your goods?

It is possible for anything on a sea voyage to happen, including weather and human error, which could hinder or cause shipment losses. A good example is when containers are dumped at sea to save a vessel, even if your container or cargo is safe and sound on the ship, you may find yourself being asked to contribute towards the loss of another Shipper's container. As a result, not only the vessel but also your cargo was sacrificed to save the other Shipper's cargo.
